Overview
What is Duplify?
Duplify is a Shopify app that lets you duplicate your store’s data from one store to another. It supports a wide range of data types, making it easier to create backups, test environments, or duplicate stores for expansion.
Why use Duplify?
Duplify helps you streamline store duplication tasks. Common use cases include:
- Creating staging or sandbox environments
- Supporting franchising or international expansion
- Selling a store
- Managing wholesale operations
- Backing up your store
Exporting
What can I export with Duplify?
You can export the following data from a source store to a destination store:
- Products and collections
- Customers and orders
- Pages, blog posts, and content files
- Active theme and theme editor images
- Redirects
- Metafields and metaobjects
How many stores can I export to?
There is no limit to the number of destination stores. Each destination requires a separate export setup from the source store.
What are export events?
An export event counts as one data item or file exported. Your plan provides a set number of export events per month. If you exceed this limit, then additional charges may apply. Export events reset monthly based on your plan tier.
What happens if I don't use all of my export events for the month?
Unused export events do not carry over. Each month your events are replenished based on your plan tier.
What data can’t I export with Duplify?
Duplify uses Shopify’s Export API to export store data, which has some restrictions. The following data can't be exported:
- Third-party apps: each app needs to be reinstalled on every destination store, and paid apps need to be purchased again.
- Most Shopify Settings: only custom data (metafields) can be exported. Other settings like business information, currency, staff accounts, and payment methods need to be configured manually.
- Customer accounts: customers need to create accounts again in the destination store. Login credentials can’t be transferred for privacy reasons.
- Paid third-party themes: themes can be exported, but you need to purchase or apply a valid license from the Shopify Theme Store.
Learn more about export limitations.
Can I export a paid third-party theme?
Duplify can export third-party theme content, but it does not transfer the theme license. Any paid theme from the Shopify Theme Store requires a valid license on each store where it’s used. After export, the theme will appear as a trial version until a license is purchased.
You have two options:
- Transfer your existing license to the destination store by contacting Shopify Support.
- Purchase a new license on the destination store.
A single license can be used on the new store, even if the theme version differs from the original.
Can I export third-party apps?
No. After duplicating a store, you need to reinstall third-party apps on each destination store and repurchase any paid apps. These apps are created by different developers and are not able to be transferred.
Do all images transfer over when I export a theme?
Most theme files migrate automatically, but some images, like those uploaded via the theme editor (logos, banners, backgrounds), require enabling the Content files export. To ensure all images transfer correctly, export both your theme and content files.
Images tied to Products, Pages, or Collections are included when you export those objects separately, so make sure to export both the theme and the relevant content to preserve everything.
